Official Book Launch of Imagick at the Perth Poetry Club EVENT IMAGE

Join us this August at the iconic Moon Café in Northbridge, Boorloo (Perth) for poetry and performance to celebrate the official launch of Imagick by Laksmi R Kanchi (Soul Reserve), winner of Pocketry’s Prize for Unpublished Poets.

Featuring a launch speech by Pocketry founder Indrani Perera, readings from the collection by Lakshmi R Kanchi and captivating performances from guest poets Sarita Slater, Asha Rajan, and Rashida Murphy.

Hosted by the eclectic and energetic Perth Poetry Club, the event is part of the Perth Poetry Festival and also showcases festival guests David Stavanger, Karen West, Valentina Macias and Sari Bennett, with an open mic segment to celebrate local poetic voices.

Independent Publishing

Pocketry is a fiercely independent poetry imprint dedicated to championing unheard voices. Founded and solely operated by Indrani Perera, Pocketry exists to support and promote poets who are too often excluded from the literary mainstream.

At a time when diverse and emerging writers continue to be sidelined from mainstream publishing, Imagick represents what is possible when those barriers are dismantled. This launch is not just about celebrating one poet; it is about building a culture of inclusion, encouragement and excellence in Australian poetry. It brings together the east and west coasts of Australia in a spirit of connection, visibility, and mutual recognition.

When we come together to share our poetry, we foster greater understanding of the self and the other. Bearing witness and holding space for someone to share their story is a radical act of creative resistance in a world overwhelmed by disconnection and erasure.

Proudly part of the vibrant 21st Perth Poetry Festival, hosted by the Perth Poetry Club and part of Red Room's Poetry Month Calendar 2025.
